The Flour Shift

The Flour Shift
Performance by Marie Hauge Jensen (DK) & Kaare p Johannesen
Presented at Another Space Gallery

This performance enacts a shift—a deliberate turning of perspective—disrupting archetypal Danish understandings by turning a familiar material inside out. It insists that even the most ordinary substance holds potential for transformation and insight.

Flour, often associated in Denmark with homely comfort, tradition, and innocence, undergoes a radical shift here in meaning. It is transformed into a charged material—both weapon and witness. As it is scattered, thrown, and settles into skin folds and fabric fibers, it becomes a bodily script, a temporary archive of connection, resistance, and contact.

By staging this shift, the performance challenges our collective notions of order and purity, opening a sensory and poetic space where the everyday becomes both wild and vulnerable—a battleground for the human experience.
