In God Bless Denmark, artist Marie Hauge Jensen and Imam Naveed Baig are physically chained together for seven days. They share daily routines, meals, prayers, silence, and conversations, navigating each other’s worlds while remaining in constant proximity.
This performance explores coexistence, trust, and boundaries. The physical chain forces a negotiation of space, movement, and autonomy, highlighting the balance between connection and personal freedom. It also challenges perceptions of gender, religion, and cultural identity in Denmark today.
By bringing a performance artist and a religious leader into such close contact, God Bless Denmark raises questions about diversity, dialogue, and togetherness in a polarized world. Can differences be bridged through shared experience? And what does it truly mean to co-exist? Through radical physical proximity, this performance creates a living exploration of identity, faith, and the realities of navigating a shared society.
