In Hide in a Jens Søndergaard shell, the performance artist explores identity transformation by embodying the Danish impressionist painter Jens Søndergaard. Over 7 days, she resides in his former home—now a museum in Ferring—recreating his paintings on fragile eggshells instead of canvas. This act contrasts the grandeur of his landscapes with the delicate, ephemeral nature of her medium.

Taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic, the performance is visible only through the museum’s windows. Marie becomes a living reenactment of Søndergaard, observed but unreachable, blurring the lines between past and present, isolation and artistic process.

Through repetition, material vulnerability, and historical dialogue, Becoming Jens Søndergaard examines the myth of the artist, the fragility of legacy, and the shifting boundaries between performance, painting, and memory.
