In RUST, Marie Hauge Jensen explores womanhood, transformation, and the passage of time through material and bodily imprints. She submerges her baptism and confirmation dresses—symbols of purity and tradition—in rust-colored water, pressing them onto large white canvases alongside the imprint of her naked body. The rust stains become marks of erosion and renewal, reflecting how identity is shaped by time, experience, and the expectations placed upon women.
As the fabric absorbs the rust, the dresses lose their pristine symbolism, dissolving into something raw and organic. Inspired by feminist performance traditions, RUST reclaims the female body as an archive—imperfect, ever-changing, and deeply inscribed with personal and collective histories.
