Trace Me Gently
Performance by Marie Hauge Jensen
Pop-up space performance, Herning gågade / Exhibition at Herning Hospital
In Trace Me Gently, Danish performance artist Marie Hauge Jensen invites passersby from the streets of Herning into a temporary, empty storefront. Within this intimate and raw space, visitors are invited to participate in a quiet, yet deeply resonant act of co-creation.
At the center of the room, large drums, covered in pigment, are ready to be struck. Hauge Jensen and each participant drum together, with every beat sending splashes of color onto the canvas below. The rhythm of the drumming is slow and intentional, a shared language of sound and touch. There are no words, only the sound of the beat and the mark it leaves behind. Through this physical action, visitors leave their unique imprint on the canvas, a trace of their time and presence.
The result is a series of vibrant, spontaneous paintings that embody moments of shared rhythm, vulnerability, and connection. These artworks are then exhibited at Herning Hospital, offering a quiet reflection of human interaction and the healing power of creative exchange. Through Trace Me Gently, the artist creates a space where strangers become collaborators, and the act of drumming becomes a ritual of gentleness, presence, and mutual recognition.
Trace Me Gently is a work about the power of touch without force, the intimacy of shared silence, and the beauty of marking the world softly, one beat at a time. The performance explores the idea that every act, no matter how gentle, leaves a trace—and that through these traces, we connect and find meaning in one another.
